About

Roger Atkins is one of the most recognisable independent voices in the electric vehicle industry. With more than 40 years’ experience, he regularly speaks at international events, hosts podcasts and shares insights with a global audience through LinkedIn, YouTube and his website.

His existing website had been built in Wix many years earlier and had gradually become difficult to manage. It no longer reflected the level of his work, updating content had become frustrating and he was paying for services he no longer needed.

The project wasn’t simply about creating a new website. It was about repositioning Roger’s personal brand, simplifying his digital ecosystem and building a platform that could grow with him.

Challenge

Roger had built a strong reputation within the electric vehicle industry, but his website and digital setup hadn’t evolved alongside his business. The project became about much more than redesigning a website, it was about creating a digital platform that reflected where the business was today and where it was heading next.

An outdated platform

Roger’s existing website had been built in Wix many years earlier. Over time, it had become increasingly difficult to update, expensive to maintain and frustrating to manage. Publishing new content felt more complicated than it needed to be, discouraging regular updates.

A brand that had outgrown its identity

While the business operated under 'Electric Vehicles Outlook', it was clear that people recognised and trusted 'Roger Atkins'. The existing website didn’t reflect this shift, missing an opportunity to strengthen his personal brand and create a clearer connection with his audience.

A user journey without direction

As new pages and content had been added over the years, the website had become difficult to navigate. Visitors were presented with valuable insights but lacked clear pathways to understand Roger’s expertise, discover his services or take the next step.

An inefficient digital setup

Alongside the website itself, Roger was paying for several services through Wix that he no longer needed. His email hosting alone was costing significantly more than necessary, making it clear there was an opportunity to simplify the technology stack and reduce ongoing costs.

Process

Discover

Every project starts with understanding the problem before exploring solutions.

I carried out a full review of Roger’s existing website, assessing each page against its purpose, user journey and overall business goals. This helped identify opportunities to improve messaging, navigation and content structure, while also uncovering wider issues with his digital setup and ongoing costs. The audit provided a clear roadmap for the project and ensured every decision was backed by strategy rather than assumptions.

Brand

As we explored Roger’s business, one thing became clear: people recognised 'Roger Atkins', not 'Electric Vehicles Outlook'.

Together, we repositioned the website around his personal brand, creating a stronger digital identity that reflected his reputation within the electric vehicle industry. Alongside this, I refined the visual style to create a more consistent and professional brand experience across the website.

Design

Using the insights from the discovery phase, I created wireframes to rethink the user journey before moving into visual design.

The homepage was restructured to better introduce Roger and build trust, the About page shifted from a career history to a story about his expertise, and both the Insights and Events sections were redesigned to make content easier to discover and manage. Every page was designed with a clear purpose, helping visitors quickly understand who Roger is and how he can help.

Build

Once the designs were approved, I developed the website in Webflow, creating a bespoke CMS that made it much easier for Roger to manage his own content.

Alongside the build, I migrated his content, simplified the technology behind the website and moved his email hosting away from Wix into Google Workspace. This not only improved usability but also reduced unnecessary costs by more than £800 per year.

Launch

Rather than replacing the existing website overnight, we introduced the new platform in phases.

This allowed us to test the experience, gather feedback and make refinements before completing the migration to roger-atkins.com. By carefully managing redirects and the transition away from the previous website, we ensured a smooth launch for both Roger and his audience.

Support

The launch marked the beginning of an ongoing partnership rather than the end of the project.

Roger continues to benefit from monthly design and technical support, allowing the website to evolve alongside his business. Since launch, we’ve introduced new features, refined content management and are now exploring ways to automate publishing between LinkedIn, YouTube and the website to further streamline his workflow.
